How a Wet Chemical Suppression System Works

These systems work by detecting heat or smoke, which triggers the release of an extinguishing agent. The agent is discharged as a mist that covers the flames and reacts with the grease or oil. The extinguisher reacts with the hot grease to create a soapy foam that cools the surface and cuts off the fire’s oxygen supply. This foam also forms a protective barrier to prevent re-ignition.

These systems have many components that work together, including:

  • Smoke and Heat Detectors: Used to detect fire promptly.
  • Discharge Nozzles: Where the extinguisher is sprayed from.
  • Tank: Holds the extinguishing agent.
  • Releasing Module: Opens the tank to allow the extinguisher to be released.
  • Gas Cartridge: Filled with either nitrogen or carbon dioxide to push out the extinguisher fluid.
  • Shut-Off Valve: Used to shut off gas after extinguishing the fire.
